Chris Jones, my friend....I am so blessed to have met you!

From the moment I met you, I could feel your kind spirit and it calmed me. After taking an 18 year break...YOU were the first bass player I sang with as I got back in this crazy~loving business called MUSIC!

You have such talent...You can SWING, your changes are beautiful and you can get funky...groove all the way around baby and I love IT!

Ladies and Gentlemen, let me introduce to you Chris Jones.....

Chris Jones began playing upright and electric bass at age thirteen in his hometown of Portland, Oregon. By sixteen he was playing around town with locals on the Portland jazz scene and gigging with bands he put together with his peers. His musical studies then took him to Oberlin Conservatory and New School University, where some of his notable teachers included Richard Davis, Chuck Israels and Orin O’Brien of the New York Philharmonic. After completing a fine arts degree in music, Chris spent several years in New York City, where he worked primarily with jazz and pop/rock artists, including Robert Glasper, Jeremy Pelt, Mark Johnson and Joe Chambers. His next move was to Tokyo, where he spent eight years performing with mainstays in the Japanese jazz and avant-garde rock world such as Reebow, Kanaras, and Masahiko Osaka. Since 2008 Chris has made his home in Austin, where he has worked with Andre Hayward, Herlin Riley, Butch Miles, Pamela Hart and numerous other world-class musicians. In 2018, together with Andre Hayward, Chris co-led the release of the original album Way Back Home, featuring Chris’ compositions and arrangements. As of 2021, Chris continues to stay busy performing around Austin and Central Texas with his favorite musicians.

I happen to have the cd Way Back Home and I love it...you should have it as well.

Chris also has a quartet and books shows with incredible musicians and vocalists. He has a residency at Ichiro Asian Bistro Bar & Grill in Georgetown on Wednesdays and Saturdays...Be sure and check this place out and Chris's Quartet...you will always be listening to the best! I am lucky to have the opportunity to sing with him and his Quartet on occasion.

I am grateful to have met you Chris and lucky to have you speak encouragement over me, wisdom and laughter...AND so honored to share the stage with you!

I look forward to many more Magical Musical Moments and a Friendship to last a lifetime!

I have some pictures below of past gigs, including our first gig together!

lv,

Melissa Raquel
